Spring

It’s spring and I’m still wearing my tall winter boots.

Little islands of snow remain in our yard.

Pine tree branches, big and small, lie broken on the ground.

What mess is from which storm? Hard to tell.

It’s spring and I’m still wearing my long winter coat.

The maroon one with the fake fur trimmed hood.

It’s more than I need most days

But it’s a comfort to know I’ll stay warm.

It’s spring and I lost my thin, gray glove again.

Last time, it was gone for days

Until Willow found it two streets over frozen in the snow.

This time, I found it in the dog gear basket by the door.

It’s spring and they say it will snow later this week.

The boots, the jacket, the gloves will be ready.

We hope the basement stays dry and the power stays on

We hope spring can come and stay awhile.
